The William Griffin project is now in the design phase and construction is expected to begin in early 2014 with completion anticipated by the end of 2015.
The District of North Vancouver and the North Vancouver Recreation Commission have selected MHPM Project Managers Inc as Project Manager and Owner’s Representative for the New William Griffin Community Recreation Centre project. According to the district website, MHPM has successfully delivered municipal projects across the Lower Mainland and Canada, over 40 of them being major recreation facilities including the Richmond Olympic Oval for the City of Richmond, Poirier Aquatic Facility for the City of Coquitlam, and the Centennial Pool for the City of Abbotsford.
Recall that the project will be partially funded by an “equity transfer” of the Delbrook Rec Centre site. This means that the block North East of Delbrook and Queens will be re-developed, most likely into some high-density housing. Your community association will be working to get ahead of this planning process to ensure the development that occurs on the block will be a net benefit to the community. Fire back in the comments if you want to talk about what should happen to the old Delbrook Rec Center site.
